Morrisville: The Lamoille Valley Rail Trail needs your help! There will be two informational meetings for trail crew recruitment. One on Tuesday, June 14th at Morrisville Centennial Library at 5:30pm and one on Wednesday, June 15th at 5:30pm in Jeffersonville, at the town offices on Church Street next to the Tavern. The meetings should last no more than an hour and you can attend one or the other, no matter where you live.
At these meetings you will find out what trail crews do; when and how the trail is monitored for issues that need attention; how and to whom to report issues; and what a work day may entail. You may be a ‘Worker Bee” that likes to pick up trash while walking or participate in an occasional, more organized work day; a monitor that is responsible for adopting and checking a short section of the trail for issues that need attention; or a Trail Chief who receives trail information from Worker Bees and Monitors and makes decisions about maintenance and work days. Training and educational sessions will be available for each of these crew positions.
These meetings are being run by the Friends of the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail (FLVRT) in cooperation with the Vermont Association of Snow Travelers (VAST), the builders of the trail. FLVRT Trail Crews will be active during the spring, summer and fall months as VAST takes care of all maintenance during winter months.
If you are interested in helping the trail become one of Vermont’s premier attractions for 4-season recreation, plan to attend one of these meetings on June 14th or 15th. The information is the same at both meetings so you can attend either one and, if interested, sign up for helping on a section of the trail that is nearest to you between Morrisville and Jeffersonville. If you cannot attend a meeting but are interested in learning moreabout FLVRT Trail Crews please go to the Friends’ web site: www. FriendsLVRT.org and contact us.
