About
the FLVRT, Continued from home page
Though the
FriendsLVRT is the only active participant in the development of
the LVRT representing and aligning with the interests of the non-motorized
recreational groups, we also share in a common goal with VTrans,
VAST and their management group. We have two representatives on
the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail Committee (LVRTC), which is currently
planning the LVRT development. We support efforts to increase the
general public’s and adjoining landowners’ awareness
of the trail development strategies, assist or otherwise recruit
in the hands-on work of trail maintenance when such work is approved,
and share information in the common goal for trail development.
In this regard, FriendsLVRT currently maintains membership on the
LVRTC.
As
the FriendsLVRT Mission Statement indicates, our goals have an emphasis
on the non-motorized recreational users, and our communication to
these users on trail related developments and activities will be
a high priority for our group and this website. The importance of
the trail as a transportation corridor and recreational path for
the non-motorized user is utmost in our vision. There will be many
challenges ahead, and we hope to grow to meet those challenges to
realize a trail that is safe for all users, accepted by adjacent
landowners and municipalities alike, and complete with sufficient
amenities and accessible to all.

Members are encouraged to share their experiences
and photographs. See our current contribution...

Members-At-Large Invited to Join Committees
The FLVRT Board of Directors has recently established
a number of committees to work on specific aspects of our work plan
for 2007. The structure we envision is to have a couple of Board
members on each committee supplemented by additional participation
from dedicated FLVT members.
1. Outreach and Membership Committee -
Responsibilies include but not limited to publishing our Newsletter;
communicating with members; interested municipal officials and Legislators;
membership building activities and education via public meetings
about the LVRT specifically and the experiences of similar trails
regionally and nationally.
2. Trail Management Committee -
Evaluating trail development design criteria, helping to open sections
of the LVRT as soon as possible, trail maintenance, dealing with
safety, noise, and enforcement from both a Trail user and adjacent
landowner perspective.
3. Fundraising Committee -
Soliciting funds from potential donors and submitting grant applications
to help fund the actual development of the LVRT and its associated
amenities such as signage, parking areas, etc.
4. Executive Committee -
At this point this Subcommittee consists of the Board officers:
President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.
If you would like to help our fledging organization grow and develop
in order to ensure that non-motorized users of the LVRT have a strong
voice in the many decisions that will be made in the next few years,
please write to us. Be sure to indicate any committees you would
be interested in serving on, and any special skills or experience
you will bring.
