Get Involved with FLVRT!
Your Leadership qualities and talents are needed by the Friends to accomplish the mission and keep the LVRT the best trail in the country! The FLVRT Board of Directors has a number of committees to work on specific aspects of our work plan. The structure we envision is to have a couple of Board members on each committee supplemented by additional participation from dedicated FLVRT members.
- Outreach and Membership Committee - Communicating with members, municipal officials, adjacent landowners, and legislators through newsletters, emails, our website, and public meetings.
- Trail Management Committee - Evaluating trail development design criteria, helping to open sections of the LVRT as soon as possible, trail maintenance, dealing with safety, noise, and enforcement from both a trail user and adjacent landowner perspective.
- Fundraising Committee - Soliciting funds from potential donors and submitting grant applications to help fund the actual development of the LVRT and its associated amenities such as signage, parking areas, etc.
The mission of the Friends LVRT is to support the development, maintenance and promotion of the LVRT as a public resource offering a tranquil and scenic year-round multi-use recreation and transportation corridor; and to especially represent the interests of non-motorized users.
To accomplish these goals, the Friends organize and supervise Trail Crews; encourage, and support the efforts of municipalities to capitalize on economic benefits provided by the trail; support construction and maintenance fundraising for the trail and will support other initiatives determined by the BOD.
Currently the BOD meets once a month on the 4th Thursday of the month. That will change, subject to membership approval, to bi-monthly meetings as follows: January, March, May, June (instead of the busy vacation months of July and August), September, and November (Annual Meeting) for lengthier planning meetings. The BOD is looking forward – with your help – to establishing a committee structure which will limit the time and effort commitment of the BOD to supporting and growing these committees as well as helping these committees to organize, plan and meet their goals.
If you would like to help accomplish any of the above, please consider joining the Board of Directors. Please email us at email@example.com and let us know any committees you would be interested in serving on, and any special skills or experience you will bring.
