All are welcome.

We are happy to announce this year’s keynote speaker is Craig Della Penna.  Craig, as an Inn owner, realtor and founder of the Northeast Greenway Solutions (NeGS) is a powerful advocate of Rail Trails.  He has spoken far and wide to great acclaim about “…subjects of rail-to-trail conversions and their tie-in to the issues surrounding smart growth, land preservation, effects on nearby residential real estate values, and other similar subjects.”  Of particular interest to the Friends’ members and guests will be Craig’s experience marketing rail trails as economic engines for surrounding communities.

In addition to Mr. Della Penna we will welcome VAST to present an update on construction and maintenance of the LVRT; Don Balcom, VAST capital campaign manager with fundraising news; and Hilary DelRoss of Vermont’s Department of Tourism and Marketing. Of course we’ll also enjoy Martell’s famous and bountiful hors d’oeuvres.  (a cash bar is available)

This year we will also recognize our outgoing board members, welcome incoming board members and recognize a great number of volunteers’ efforts.

Please mark your calendars and make your reservations early as space will be limited.  Contact the Friends at: or call 802-888-0322 with your name, the number of people in your party and contact information.

Thank you, Thistledown Inn, for supporting the FLVRT by accommodating Mr. Della Penna.

Reservations should be made by contacting Donna Higgons at 888-0322 or

“We are excited to announce that Emily Boedecker , Executive Director of Local Motion will share her amusing and informative trail experiences with the audience,” said Donna Higgons, president of Friends LVRT.  “In addition, Kevin Russell just completed his second walk of the entire trail (96 miles!) and will open the meeting with slides of his experience and, as if that’s not enough entertainment, Jim Fredericks, trail rider extraordinaire and former president of the Catamount Trail Association will add an international flavor to the program by showing what it’s like to ride in Croatia, reported Ms. Higgons”

Completed from St. Johnsbury to West Danville and soon to be completed from Morrisville to Jeffersonville, the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail (LVRT) promises to be an exciting addition to the recreation, health, and economic benefits of the counties along the trail and, in fact, for the entire northern tier of Vermont,” said Cindy Locke, Executive Director of the Vermont Association of Snow Travelers (VAST).  “Already communities along the trail are experiencing an influx of visitors and locals alike who walk, bike, ride horseback, exercise dogs, kids and push strollers along the open sections of the trail.  Soon they’ll be snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and dog mushing through a winter wonderland, “ she continued.

The Friends LVRT want to help these communities reap the benefits of the trail and will be sharing progress and ideas at Thursday’s meeting as will Cindy Locke, Executive Director of VAST, the organization responsible for the construction of the trail.

All are welcome to the Friends LVRT Annual Meeting on November 19th but we ask you to make a reservation by contactingDonna Higgons at 888-0322 or
